[Glee] Pride and Prejudice (Kurt and Brittany gen)
Title: Pride and Prejudice
Fandom: Glee
Length: 433 words
Prompt:
glee_fluff_meme: Kurt takes Brittany to her first Pride March.
Pairing: Kurt and Brittany gen; past Santana/Brittany
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Kurt had never thought that Brittany could be gay too, and he felt a little bad about that. He was so used to assuming that everyone was straight except him that he'd looked right past the way that Brittany seemed to sparkle when Santana was in the room.
Kurt was aware of the "lesbians until graduation" phenomena, but after Brittany and Santana "broke up," or whatever you called it when a friends-with-benefits situation devolved back to just-friends, Brittany moped around Glee Club for a month. She avoided Santana a little-- not enough for Santana to become suspicious, but Santana was so buried in a resurgence of her relationship with Puck that she probably wouldn't have noticed.
Kurt had never thought that Brittany could be gay too, and he felt a little bad about that. He was so used to assuming that everyone was straight except him that he'd looked right past the way that Brittany seemed to sparkle when Santana was in the room. And then, the way she faltered without the other cheerleader. He stayed to watch Cheerios practice one day, lurking high enough on the bleachers that he hopefully wouldn't be noticed, and even from that distance he could see Brittany's reluctance to balance on Santana's back, her hesitance when jumping into Santana's grasp.
Trying to get them back together wasn't a good idea. Santana didn't show any aversion to Brittany, which probably meant that she'd been using the blonde as an experiment, or a source of regular sex. So Kurt decided to help her in the only way he knew how. After all, Brittany was one of his backup dancers. She was his friend, and she had been for a long time, since they had gone to elementary school together and traded makeovers in middle school.
"I want you to go somewhere with me," he said, catching her after Glee practice and wrapping her arm around his.
They didn't often speak in school due to their differing social statuses (which was okay with Kurt, because they spent time together outside), and Brittany's eyes widened.
"I didn't think we were doing another video until next week," she said. In response, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a flyer folded carefully. He handed it to her.
"What are you doing next weekend? Because I was thinking about a road trip," he said cheerfully. She unfolded the paper, glanced over at him, and then down at the page.
"Kin--" she began to pronounce slowly. Kurt leaned over.
"Cincinnati Pride," he read for her. "Next weekend. I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet people. People like us."
"Oh," she said, and smiled. "Should we dress up?"
"You're speaking my language, sister," he answered. They shared a smile, and then Brittany spoke again.
"Pride in what, exactly?"
Kurt snorted. "You'll see."
