Excerpt: "Li-kun, that truly is an ugly shirt," Tomoyo exclaimed.

"Li-kun, that truly is an ugly shirt," Tomoyo exclaimed. Syaoran studied his garments.

"Do you think so?" he asked, sounding panicked.

"It does absolutely nothing for you," she informed him. She poked her head into his closet and came back out with a different shirt.

"Wear this one," she said decisively.

"This one?" Syaoran said, taking the hanger from her and looking at the shirt uncertainly. It was a plain white button-front shirt, not unlike the one he was currently wearing.

"Yeah, it's perfect," Tomoyo said, and Syaoran went back into the bathroom to change. When he came back out, he looked suspiciously the same, but Tomoyo smiled.

"Perfect," she said firmly. His attire decided, Syaoran began to fish through a large pile of papers on his bureau. He went through them twice before he turned back to Tomoyo. Before he could ask, she held up a small set of notecards.

"Notecards are a little more subtle than a lengthy speech, Li-kun," she said, and handed him the cards, which he tucked into his pocket. The final item he produced was a small white box, which he opened just to make sure (like he had been doing every fifteen minutes today) that the ring was still there. It was.

"She'll love it," Tomoyo assured. After all, she'd helped him pick it out. "Now, don't be nervous... Here, practice on me."

She stood there for a moment and he looked at her uncertainly. "Come on," she insisted. "You want this to be nice, don't you? Your date with Sakura is only an hour away..."

Awkwardly Syaoran got down on one knee. He pulled the notecards from one pocket but fumbled as he tried to rescue the ring box from another, and spilled the cards all over the ground. He leaned over to pick them up, but Tomoyo stopped him.

"At this point, you have to keep going, no matter what," she said.

"Sakura-chan," Syaoran said shakily, "I really... love you. I want to spend... the rest of our lives together. Will you-- will you marry me?"

"Oh, yes, Syaoran-kun!" Tomoyo said in a passable imitation of Sakura's voice, jumping up and down like she was terribly excited. Then she took Syaoran's hand and pulled him to his feet.

"Good luck," she said fondly. "Don't worry too much."

"Thanks, Tomoyo-san," Syaoran said, bowing, and she let him lead her out of the room. She only paused a moment to shut off the light and shut the pain out of her eyes. Then she went to get her videocamera. Full video access was her price for coaching Syaoran through buying the ring and the proposal.

"Sakura-chan's getting married!" Tomoyo said, clapping her hands, and Syaoran blushed and nodded. They went to meet their friend.
