Excerpt: He wondered why this woman enjoyed playing war games.

"You chose the other side? Why?"

"I could ask you the same thing," she countered, "seeing as how you've come to sell secrets to my side."

Clow looked to one side, embarassed. "It's getting hard... to get along on the other side."

"And thus I've chosen this one." Yuuko's eyes sparked brightly and she reached up and adjusted her cap. How had she gotten a promotion to captain already? Clow wondered. She lifted the cap a bit to reveal her roughly crew-cut hair. He hated seeing it short like that, but he had to admit her appearance of manly vigor would be ruined by her normally flowing locks.

She didn't seem to mind the hair cut much. He wondered why this woman enjoyed playing war games.

"So what have you got for me?" Yuuko asked, eyes bright. Clow hesitated.

"Your side is going to lose," she reminded. "In every world we've been, they have."

"What if this is a deviant one?"

"Don't make me use... force." From beneath her jacket, Yuuko drew a rough leather whip. Despite himself, Clow shuddered. If anyone would do it...

The whip cracked menacingly, much too close to Clow's face. Nervously he adjusted his cap.

"I get to choose the next world," Clow said. Yuuko considered, rubbing the leather handle across her palms.

"Okay," she said after a moment, leaning forward eagerly. "Now, spill."

Clow opened his mouth to speak and promised himself that he'd pick a quiet world next. Maybe one of the ones where humans hadn't come to be yet.
