Excerpt: If I'm not the first for Yuki, I'll meet this person whom I can be first for. It will be worth this heartache.
First come, first serve. That's how it is at the restaurant where Touya works. Every time Tomoyo and I come in, he has to wait to take our order, even though he's my brother. That's the way the world should work, he says. Everyone who walks in the door is equal to everyone else.
That's how it is in Touya's life, too. Whomever he is with receives all of his attentions until they are gone. Touya can make you feel like you're the only person in the world. Not that that is necessarily a good thing. When he's scolding me, for example, I wish he would be distracted.
Yukito is like that too, except for the scolding part. Every time he looks at me, I go all floaty because I feel like the only girl in the world. I used to hope sometimes when he looked at me that he saw that he was my number one.
First come, first serve, ne?
The only thing is, when I look at my brother and Yuki together, I realize that I'm not the first in Yuki's life. Touya beat me. Stupid older brother calling me kaijuu and shorty and getting in the way of first love...
I thought that Li-kun would understand; that's why I told him when I confessed to Yuki. But he wasn't in love with Yuki anymore. It was just me and Touya.
And Yuki's philosophy is also first come, first serve.
Li-kun let me cry anyway. He told me that Yukito was right when he said that I would find my own number one, and I could see that he meant it. I just don't know. I don't think I'll ever feel this strongly for anyone ever again, no matter how hard I try.
Yuki and Li-kun both have hazel eyes, but there is more fire burning in Li-kun's. His love is more passionate than comfortable. It burns in him and it burns him, I think, to be unable to tell of his love. But I'm sure he'll be okay.
You're not always lucky enough to be the first to come to Touya's restaurant, but he always serves you eventually. And I think that's how I am with love. If I'm not the first for Yuki, I'll meet this person whom I can be first for. It will be worth this heartache.
Everything will be all right.
