Summary/Notes/Warnings: As they wait to hear whether Nadeshiko will die, Fugitaka and his wife make a promise. Double-drabble.

They held hands as they waited for the doctor to arrive, and looked at each other. It didn't feel real to them. They were young and healthy, new lovers on top of the world. Nadeshiko's stomach was still swollen from Sakura's birth.

The pregnancy had helped the doctor to detect it, and he had recommended a biopsy. They were waiting for the results now. She leaned her head on his shoulder. He was the perfect height, even though she was sitting on the examination table (her legs always dangled, and it made her feel like a child) and he was standing.

"No matter what, I'll love you," she whispered, and suddenly he was clutching her, holding her, his hands wrapped in her beautiful dark curls, which had grown limper and lighter since they found out about her sickness. It seemed to suck the liveliness out of everyone except for Sakura. She would always be bright, Fujitaka thought, just like her mother.

"No matter what," he said, and kissed the top of her head, and let her go. They waited to hear what the doctor would say.

He never took off his wedding ring. He loved her no matter what.
