Excerpt: It didn't matter. He was Li Syaoran, next in line to lead the Li clan, and it didn't matter how much he cared for a little green-eyed Japanese girl. He had to go home.
i. going home
The day he left the sun fled too, leaving Tomoeda as gloomy as he felt. He sat there quietly on the bus with his hands in his lap, and wished that he still had that stupid bear.
He wanted something to remind him of her, even if he never saw her again. And why would he? He'd never found the courage to tell her how he felt, and well...
It didn't matter. He was Li Syaoran, next in line to lead the Li clan, and it didn't matter how much he cared for a little green-eyed Japanese girl. He had to go home.
ii. a better man than I
He could never be as good to her as that stupid English boy was. The kid was suave, and kind, and didn't hesitate to show affection. At first, he had bristled at their contact, but then Daidouji had said it--
Oh, it's just like a shoujo manga, don't you think, Li-kun?
She was right. Whatever he felt for Sakura wasn't important. What was important was how she felt. So, as much as he hated it, he would let her go to this suspicious foreign charmer.
Li Syaoran knew when to give in to the better man.
iii. first love, true love
The day after she confessed she came into school flushed with joy. She was so beautiful when she was excited like this. It was becoming harder and harder for him to resist her. But he knew he had to.
Especially when she turned around to tell him all about her new boyfriend, Yukito, and how poorly her brother had taken it, and how sweetly he had kissed her on the cheek. Just like she had gossiped with Daidouji-san, no doubt.
He glanced from the corner of his eye to Daidouji and mimicked her supposed happiness. That girl could teach him something about hiding emotions.
iv. rather die than lose you
Hiiragizawa hadn't meant for it to be this hard. Perhaps he hadn't realized how large the burden was that he'd placed on Sakura to make her transform the cards. Perhaps he thought that she would give in and he could have the cards back, her short tenure as the Mistress turned to baby-sitting for the Clow reincarnate. Who knew what Hiiragizawa had thought?
He and his Clow-like presence had fled Tomoeda when it became apparent that Syaoran wasn't going to make it through.
It shouldn't have hurt someone as badly as it did when Syaoran lost his magic. Sure, he'd collapsed from the effort of helping Sakura, but it wasn't immediately noticable that all of his magic had been sucked into that greedy Clow wand. And his rapid deterioration afterward--well, Sakura wasn't sure how much of that was honest illness and how much was shame and depression from his loss.
Whatever caused it, now they were shipping one of her dearest friends home in a box. And he'd never gotten a chance to tell her what was so important to him, either.
Sakura sniffled, pulling the comforter over her head, and wished that she never had to get up again.
v. in the family
Sakura cheered along with everyone else when the official pronounced the pair husband and wife. This week had been exciting and eventful. She'd flown in Saturday and here it was Friday, and they were wed. In-between there had been the many trips to the hair-dresser and the restaurant and the banquet hall, and the bachelorette party that became a sleepover with old friends and new. The Chinese was thick in Sakura's mouth, but she managed to joke that Meiling wouldn't even have to change her name when she got married.
Something else was thick in her throat, and she let the tears flow. She watched them walk down the aisle. The perfect couple, his sisters cooed, together for over a decade already. She had a firm grip on his arm, like always, and he looked down at her with a trace of affection.
Syaoran's eyes met Sakura's across the room, and then he looked away.

He was Li Syaoran, next in line to lead the Li clan,
Li Syaoran knew when to give in to the better man. For some reason, this made me think of those Chuck Norris sayings. *laughs*
