Excerpt: "It's not what it looks like," Clow said helplessly.

The mansion was deserted, timeless, in the same manner it always was. The cherry blossoms always bloomed too long out here, victim to Clow's whims. He loved those flowers.

She was beginning to grow weary, to miss city streets and bustling crowds and all of the things that she had hated when he invited her to move in. She missed the heart of the city. She took to walking the paths in the afternoons, restless. She and Clow talked less and less and she longed for the return of novelty and fun. He'd been such a fun man on the outside, laughing and drinking and carousing. Now he let Kero do his carousing and Yuuko his drinking. Yue never laughed, but one couldn't have everything.

She opened the study door to tell him she was going to leave on one late late summer afternoon where the cherry blossom blooms were thick on the ground, like beautiful litter.

"It's not what it looks like," Clow said helplessly. Yuuko lifted her eyebrows, taking in long loose hair, the glasses carefully set to the side, and smooth creamy skin. Yue blinked once and did not look away from her.

"Thought you'd know better, Clow," she said, shocked despite herself. He'd put too much power into making Yue. He'd put part of himself into Yue. They had the same stare sometimes, and the same gentle smile. She wondered what exactly Clow had given in exchange for the precious power to create life. Whatever it was, it seemed addicting to him. She'd always called him a narcissist, and she mumbled it under her breath as she shut the door.

She left the room and said nothing else. She heard Yue cry out from behind closed doors, harsh and low and satisfied, she left.
