Excerpt: "I'm tired," he said to her one day, the eighth day of the twentieth year they'd been together (looking the same age as he had looked, of course, the day they'd met).

She hadn't been thinking about it; rather, she'd been trying not to. It had happened with all of them so far-- twelve for twelve. Her track record with men was admittedly bad, but she wasn't a miracle-worker. She was a wish-granter. It wasn't her fault.

"I'm tired," he said to her one day, the eighth day of the twentieth year they'd been together (looking the same age as he had looked, of course, the day they'd met). He had that look in his his eyes and her heart fell. It was coming-- thirteen for thirteen.

"Tired of what?" she said, nonetheless.

"I'm tired of not changing," he said, leaning back in that imposing and ugly chair he favored. Yuuko favored the floor when she was in his house. She picked at the carpet.

"You think too much," she said, her heart breaking. He studied her face with sharp eyes, but saw nothing in her carefully-maintained neutrality.

"I think that I'm ready to die," Clow said thoughtfully. "I've seen the future, and it's good, it's needed."

He didn't say that he'd seen her crying, later, alone; she didn't say it either. But when Watanuki showed up, she knew it was his fault.
