"I'll take care of him," the boy had said, gesturing to the pale man who had appeared at his side, the man who was at that moment bonelessly sliding to the floor, unconscious.

The twelve-year-old had used Clow's voice, and she'd nodded automatically. He'd led her to the door and shut it behind her.

She knew it was stupid to cry, but he hadn't said not to. She broke there, on the doorstep, because he was gone.
