Excerpt: No one else noticed when she let Syaoran go, but Eriol marked the day down in his journal, adding a quick sketch of her restored grin during class when she didn't notice.

The day dawned bright and cold, but there was something new in the air today. Sakura could feel it, could see it in her breath visible in the morning chill.

She couldn't quite put a finger on it, nor could Kero. Her father might have recognized it, had he not been out of town, but Kero was still feeling his way around her teenage tendencies (Clow had never quite been a normal man, and he'd certainly never bothered to worry about much beyond his guardians, his alcohol, and his Cards).

So Kero didn't notice, and by a turn of fate, Tomoyo didn't either, missing school that day due to illness, but Eriol saw and smiled.

No one else noticed when she let Syaoran go, but Eriol marked the day down in his journal, adding a quick sketch of her restored grin during class when she didn't notice.

"There's something special about January first, isn't there, Sakura-san?" he asked before he left the classroom that afternoon. "New years, new beginnings."

The afternoon shadows harshened her face but couldn't hide her smile.

"There's something special about every day, Eriol-kun," she said, giggling, and he could only agree.
