Summary: Eriol muses on Tomoyo and her love and how still waters rush deep, and sometimes babbling brooks do as well.
She is much too old for her age. I do not meet her eyes often because I worry that she might see a reflection of herself in me and realize that I also am not who I appear to be.
Daidouji Tomoyo, brilliant, beautiful Japanese twelve-year-old with a deeply buried secret. If I were not as good as I am, I never would have noticed the way her eyes linger on Sakura in a way that is not entirely platonic, and that her clueless smile is little more than a facade.
She looked right through me when I first started being friendly with Sakura, and I believe that if I hadn't met with her approval then there would have been a lot of trouble. But instead she smiles, and uses me to goad Li, adding a few calluses to her heart, as I imagine she has been doing for a long time now.
She gazes right through my obscurity and tells me that I look on Sakura with kind eyes, not romantic ones, and what choice do I have but to agree? She will not tell Sakura, of course, being so used to keeping secrets that she keeps everyone's, but she knows as much of the truth as she will know before I reveal myself.
It's funny how three sets of eyes can focus on one little girl and see different things. I see my salvation from the burden of being the strongest magician in the world. Li sees the most beautiful and exasperating person in his life. Tomoyo sees the one thing in the world that her mother's money could not give her, and is content for it to remain this way.
When Clow was young, he told me, he doesn't remember any other twelve-year-olds with such deep minds. He does, however, find it amusing that she keeps me on my toes. I will be a chimera for as long as I can. Tomoyo, don't reveal my secret.
