[Avatar: The Last Airbender] nothing to do and all day to do it in (Mai/Toph/Zuko)
Title: nothing to do and all day to do it in
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Length: 707 words
Prompt: fandom_stocking for
ranalore
Pairing: Toph/Zuko/Mai
Other: Soft R for sexual activity.
Excerpt: "See, I knew you could relax," Toph said. Her feet were pressed up against his shoulderblades and she was massaging them a little with her toes, which was surprisingly comfortable. For him, anyway. She had her back against the headboard and seemed to enjoying that as well. Zuko did not mention that she had in fact said the exact opposite only earlier this week. It felt like a lifetime ago.
Toph walked a circuit, but it was surprising how often she ended up in the Fire Nation, considering that visiting from the Earth Kingdom involved a boat or sky bison ride, and Zuko knew she hated both. That didn't stop her from showing up with regularity, bringing letters from his uncle, news from their friends, and sometimes just herself and an attitude that dared them to complain.
To his astonishment, Mai became fast friends with Toph. They had this habit of suddenly falling silent when he walked into the room, Mai's face carefully impassive, Toph's mouth twitching. He knew they were talking about him. He knew it!
But Toph would never admit to it, and she probably spent nearly as much time with him as she did with Mai. She waited impatiently for lengthy meetings to end and dragged him down to the rocky beach nearby, or rearranged the statues in his garden, or challenged him to drinking contests that somehow he could never win. She made him laugh, and there were precious few things that did nowadays. Sometimes being the Fire Lord still felt like a coup waiting to happen. Some of his counselors certainly seemed to feel that way too, at least until Toph rooted them out for him and he arrested them.
She was picking at her teeth when he showed up to thank her, the soles of her feet as black as lava dust. He knew what color they were because she had them up on the coffee table in the little apartment he kept for her.
"They were planning to put my sister back in power," he told Toph, sitting down across from her on a stool, back stiff.
Toph snorted. "And what, control her like a puppet? They wouldn't have lived through that plan, I did them a favor."
"You did me a favor," Zuko told her. He fisted his hand in his lap. It wasn't the first attempt to oust him, and it wouldn't be the last, but he'd really thought that his counselors were on his side by now.
Toph waved a hand airily. "I'll add it to your tab. You still owe me a life-changing field trip, you know. Now it has to be to somewhere nice."
Zuko had a sudden idea, and before he could stop himself, he blurted out, "Ember Island. We could go back there and relax this time."
"You couldn't relax if a scorpion-crab paralyzed you with its bite," Toph said, but she smiled. "But I'm willing to try to make you."
That was a little more ominous than Zuko had hoped for, but he made the arrangements.

As it turned out, you did usually learn something about yourself on Ember Island. He learned to take a chance. He didn't feel guilty at all having sex with both Mai and Toph, because they both seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. It had been Toph's suggestion to cure an afternoon of boredom, or at least, that was what she had said; judging by the looks passed between his wife and his friend, they'd been planning this for a while. He was not going to complain.

"Sometimes," Mai said, long and languid, her skin bright against the dark red sheets. She hadn't bothered to put her clothes back on after their last encounter, and he drank in her beauty. It still made him breathless, even after ten years.
There was a smear of her lipstick across Toph's cheek. He saw it when Toph shifted in the bed and put her head on his shoulder. She wasn't holding him so much as she was draped over him, reaching into his lap. He stirred at her touch.
"Then again," she said, stroking him with a firm hand, "relaxation is overrated."
Zuko laughed, and turned to kiss her.
