[Big Hero Six] beauty is woman's sceptre (Honey/Gogo)
Title: beauty is woman's sceptre
Fandom: Big Hero Six
Length: 702 words
Prompt: n/a
Pairing: Honey Lemon/Gogo Tomago
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Gogo had mastered the resting bitch face by the age of thirteen in hopes that people would leave her alone once in a while. How could someone like Honey choose to shine all the time?
Gogo actually met Honey in her women's studies class freshman year. It seemed like an easy elective and it actually probably would have been if there weren't so many boring boys in it whining about "misandry." Gogo had been dating Kelly Kim at the time and never would have taken a look at Honey if she hadn't been so earnestly explaining the idea of privilege and patriarchy to the sullen frat boys. She had absolutely no idea how Honey could be so patient with them.
The thing with Kelly had fizzled out by the time that Callaghan got ahold of her. She thought about it like that now that she knew what kind of person he was; at the time she'd just been glad someone in the science department was paying attention. But he'd groomed all of them, taken them into the fold, and made them feel special. They were, but what had he been planning to do with their inventions in the end? Gogo didn't like to think about it.
Even then, Gogo and Honey weren't that close. Honey was nice to everyone, and it grated on Gogo a little. Gogo had mastered the resting bitch face by the age of thirteen in hopes that people would leave her alone once in a while. How could someone like Honey choose to shine all the time? Didn't she get tired?
She started to seem more real to Gogo after they started the whole superhero business with troubled child genius Hiro. Now there was someone who had even more hang-ups than she did, although his probably were mostly because of the puberty thing. She kind of liked having someone around who was shorter than her. Wasabi was giving her a crick in the neck.
Now that superhero team was her main extra-curricular they spent even more time together as a group, practicing combat and discussing tactics and all that jazz. Gogo was digging the applied science. And she liked Honey's optimism now. No matter how many times she fell down, she got back up again and reached into that ridiculous gumdrop purse of hers to pull out some more magic. Chemistry was not in Gogo's wheelhouse, but skating wasn't in Honey's. It worked out. They argued and play-fought and one time, Gogo gave Honey a stick of gum. What, she had an extra, it wasn't any big deal.
Honey was always dragging them to charity events and hugging children in the street and showing off her ridiculously long legs, and after a while, Gogo couldn't take her eyes off her. She liked the way that Honey smiled, like she was smiling just for you.
There were good nights and there were bad nights, and there was the in-between. It stopped raining around the time the sun went down and they were splashing through puddles together. They stopped a convenience store robbery and Hiro made a horrible pun and Baymax gave them each a fistbump, ceremoniously. There wasn't much else going on tonight. They tried not to interfere in regular police business because it made the police and Wasabi nervous. No fires tonight, no cats in trees. They finally decided to take their costumes off and go back to the Lucky Cat. It was beat poetry night, after all.
In the middle of a revolting display of black eyeliner and bongos, Gogo leaned across the cafe table and kissed Honey on the cheek. Honey turned her face so they were kissing for real, and it was perfect. The blood was rushing in Gogo's ears, like it did when she was going so fast that the world blurred. It felt like flying.
When they pulled back to breathe Honey was looking at her like she was the only girl in the world.
"We should go to a movie tomorrow," Honey said. "Just you and me." She smiled and adjusted her glasses.
"I'll get the tickets, you get the popcorn," Gogo said, and when she reached across the table, Honey took her hand like it was the easiest thing in the world.
