Prompt: fic_promptly: Welcome to Night Vale, the dog park is Carlos' subject of study at the moment and Cecil worries that he'll come back changed into something unrecognizable. But then again maybe his lovely locks will come back too.

Excerpt: And Carlos laughed at him. He didn't mean anything by it, but Cecil finds the implications worrying. If you start laughing at perfectly sensible coping mechanisms, where do you stop?
First of all, the dog park does not exist.
Cecil tried to tell Carlos that when he first started looking in the direction of the dog park which definitely is not located in mid-town and surrounded by an enormous fence. And Carlos laughed at him. He didn't mean anything by it, but Cecil finds the implications worrying. If you start laughing at perfectly sensible coping mechanisms, where do you stop?
Second of all, the dog park, if it were to exist, changes people. When Carlos comes back in the evenings, Cecil pets his hair and checks his teeth for irregularities. Carlos thinks it's cute. Cecil just wants to know. He doesn't want to wake up one day next to Someone Else.
"I'm still here," Carlos says to Cecil, and he kisses Cecil's palm.
"I'd like that to continue," Cecil tells him.
Carlos promises, but Night Vale doesn't take promises for currency anymore, not since the recession started.
On a Thursday, Carlos comes back from the dog park buzzing. Literally buzzing -- every few minutes, he emits a sound like radio static. He doesn't seem to notice.
Cecil pets his hair, and hopes that at least that part of him stays the same.
