[Star Wars] I happen to like nice men (Leia gen)

Title: I happen to like nice men

Length: 367 words
Prompt: Joys, for Christmas 2013; also fic_promptly: Star Wars, Leia, she was the one raised on Tatooine with Luke the prince on Alderaan
Pairing: Leia gen
Other: AU as per request.

Excerpt: It was probably wrong of Leia, but her first honest thought was that he didn't look much like a prince at all. He wore mostly white, a tunic and pants which was surprisingly clean considering he was in prison. Maybe it was that his smile was amazingly sincere. She could not associate it with a political man.

It was probably wrong of Leia, but her first honest thought was that he didn't look much like a prince at all. He wore mostly white, a tunic and pants which was surprisingly clean considering he was in prison. Maybe it was that his smile was amazingly sincere. She could not associate it with a political man.

"Rescue?" he said, getting up from the bench. Han sputtered something behind Leia that she chose to ignore, probably something about how pretty and useless the boy would be. Leia thought that the information in his mind was worth the attempted rescue.

His being pretty didn't hurt either.

"Do we look like guards to you? Come on, we only have a couple minutes," she said, more gruffly than intended. Her heart sank when she heard the first sounds of laserfire. She hauled the prince out of the cell by one arm and pushed him ahead of her down the corridor, trying to think of a way out of this.

Luke treated her to another brilliant smile when she began to pry open the garbage port. She'd handed him a pistol but he didn't attempt to return any fire. She rather thought he'd forgotten he was holding it.

"Thank you," he said as they climbed in, the smell rising up around them like a sandstorm burning Leia's throat. Han barked a laugh.

"If we ever need to polite them to death we know who to call," Han said, tone mocking. Leia caught his ankle under the water and enjoyed the splash as he tripped. There was no reason to be offended for Luke's sake, not really, but she still felt oddly protective of him.

They finally made their way back to the ship and Leia watched in horror as her mentor died before her eyes. It was Luke who pulled her into the ship, then, putting a hand gently on her back.

"My mom died when I was young," he said in an understanding tone, and there wasn't time to explain who Obi-Wan was right now. They needed to strap in and disappear quickly. She did pause for a moment, however.

"Thanks," she said, hoping he understood, as space enfolded them.
