[Welcome to Night Vale] he sees you when you're sleeping (Josie gen)

Title: he sees you when you're sleeping
Fandom: Welcome to Night Vale
Length: 241 words
Prompt: Old Woman Josie, Christmas
Pairing: Josie gen
Other: No spoilers.

Excerpt: "Come on," she said, gesturing to the angels untangling lights. "Let me show you where to hang those."

Thing was, Josie always put a simple star on top of her Christmas tree. She could never find an angel that looked like the ones in her dreams. Her sister had bought her one once, a pretty girl angel with blonde curls and an insipid expression. Josie had disliked it immediately. It was in the attic, gathering dust, or perhaps a god for superstitious mice.

The angels brought it down with the boxes of plastic greenery and tangled lights. One of them pulled her out of the box, dusted off her porcelain face. They all turned as one to look at Josie. The sensation of all those eyes on her would be terrifying in any other little town in the Southwest, but Josie just shrugged.

"Terrible, isn't it?" she said, and relief blew through the room like a hot wind. An angel flapped a leathery wing; another blinked its fourth set of eyes. Josie smiled.

"Come on," she said, gesturing to the angels untangling lights. "Let me show you where to hang those."

She went outside and gave directions to her flock. The lights weren't as straight as when she had Cecil do them, but that was okay.

They went back in after and saw that the remaining angels had gotten the tree up and found the star. It was in its proper place, slowly weeping blood.

"Perfect," Josie said, and the angels sang praise in high clear voices like birds.
