When Joan came into the living room one morning, sleep-rumpled and yawning from a late night looking through case files until her eyes watered and swam with ghosts, she found Sherlock prostate on the ground behind the bookcase, pulled out just far enough to allow him access; to her credit, Joan just rolled her eyes and sighed, which alerted Sherlock to her presence. He sprang up, eyes bright in a way that suggested he'd never quite made it to bed, and he said, "Joan, we have mice - and they're completely brilliant, I have to show you!", and not for the first time, Joan contemplated the life she had chosen for herself, and she decided she needed coffee, trailing off into the kitchen with Sherlock right behind.

After a long minute, Dawson and Basil emerged from the hole, Dawson looking apologetic and Basil adjusting his coat fussily; "Come now, before he returns," Basil said, setting a pace his partner could hardly match, "We must solve it first!"
