[Sarah Jane Adventures] part of the solution (Sarah Jane gen)
Title: part of the solution
Fandom: Sarah Jane Adventures
Length: 151 words
Prompt: three sentence ficathon: Sarah Jane Adventures/Classic Who, Sarah Jane Smith, where she got her sonic lipstick
Pairing: Sarah Jane gen
Other: I believe that official canon states that the Doctor gave Sarah her sonic lipstick, but this is more fun.
Excerpt: Back on Earth after Aberdeen, she brought the details to UNIT's new scientific advisor and charmed him into making her a prototype.
"A sonic disrupter," the Doctor had called it once, and he'd sort of explained in that rambling, deep-voiced way of his the way the sonic screwdriver worked and how he could use it to unlock doors. Being a journalist who found herself on the wrong side of too many locked doors, Sarah Jane had listened attentively for once, discarding all the rubbish and flowery words to pick up as much of the science as she could.
Back on Earth after Aberdeen, she brought the details to UNIT's new scientific advisor and charmed him into making her a prototype, and over the years, she refined the design into something that worked quite well, in her opinion - at least, it was opening doors for her, decades later, and it could go anywhere, unlike K9; in the end, it might have been her favorite 'gift' from the Doctor, the one she'd built herself.
