[Avatar] peacocks and lilies (Gaang gen)
Title: peacocks and lilies
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Length: 399 words
Prompt: Change one thing in my character's canon AU: Toph isn't blind for
jellybabyoftheneutronflow
Pairing: Gaang gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Sokka looked skeptical. "They call her the Bei Fong Princess," he said. "The Bei Fongs practically own this town. What are the chances that they let their spoiled rich girl daughter fight in Earth Rumble? As a blind boy?"
"That's her! That has to be her!" Aang hissed. "Sure, she can see and she's a girl, but that doesn't matter."
The trio were resting in the Bei Fong compound. Their hosts were nowhere to be seen. Dinner had been nice, if fussy. Toph Bei Fong had been a perfect lady, with no sign of the raw power or salty language that she'd shown in the ring last night. Hypothetically. Neither of the Water Tribe members seemed to believe Aang.

"I can tell from the way she moves," Aang said. "She's the one from my dream."
"That'd actually be a great way to fight," Katara mused. "You get everyone to let their guard down. What can a little blind kid do? And then, bam!"
"But how does she do that?" Sokka wondered. "That's a real blindfold. We saw someone check it."
It was part of the usual ritual, apparently, when the Blind Bandit fought, that he (?) passed his blindfold around the closer rows of seats for their inspection. He'd come out into the ring with a blindfold on already, hair pulled back severely under a hat. When the blindfold was deemed sufficient, he'd grinned and put it on over his other one. The audience had loved it.
"I don't know. But the way he moved -- the way she moved -- it was like Bumi said. She has neutral jing," Aang responded stubbornly.
Katara rolled her eyes. "Well, good luck enlisting her to the cause. She looks like she hasn't done a day's work in her life. Just because the Bei Fongs are giving us a bed for the night, doesn't mean they want their daughter to teach the Avatar."
Suddenly, a voice from the doorway. It dripped with false politeness. "Oh, I absolutely just couldn't! I'm the perfect lady. I only use my earthbending to make pottery!"
Toph's eyes flashed across the group. She was leaning in the doorframe, her stance confident and not at all demure.
"Hair-Loopies, Twinkletoes, Ponytail... we need to have a talk," she announced.
