Ty Lee decided that snow was definitely her new favorite thing. Kittens had been her favorite for a whole week this spring, after Meimei's litter started to wobble around on their little furry paws, but snow might last even longer as a favorite. She told Suki so. Suki just rolled her eyes, but Ty Lee wasn't surprised. Suki was the leader, so she had to be unimpressed by most things, or people wouldn't take her seriously. At least, that's what Ty Lee thought was going on. She knew that Suki knew how to laugh, but it was mostly when Sokka was around. (Still a shame that he'd been snapped up, really, but probably for the best.)
The Fire Nation didn't see snow much, which was part of the reason it was Ty Lee's new favorite thing. She loved novelties, and snow was so beautiful. Her roommate told her that every snowflake was unique, and Ty Lee spent ten minutes trying to catch them to confirm this theory. They melted way too fast, though, and then her hands got cold, so she went inside. The snow continued to fall, unobserved. Apparently it snowed a lot on Kyoshi Island in the winter, although not quite as much as it did at the poles. Ty Lee made a mental note to visit either of them at some point. Sokka lived in a house made of snow, and she thought that sounded really fun.
Ty Lee had trouble paying attention during indoor sparring the day it started snowing. She kept thinking about all of the things she'd read about in books, like making snow angels or snow people, and having snowball fights. She was itching to get outside and test out her brand new snow boots. Because she wasn't paying attention, Suki flipped her three times. Finally Suki shook her head and let them go early.
The snow lay like fresh white sheets on the ground, unmarred except here and there with footprints. Ty Lee wanted to lay down on it and she did, feeling the cold flow up through her, back toward the slate-colored sky. She opened her mouth and tasted snowflakes, and they tasted like a clean sort of nothingness.
Snow was definitely her favorite thing right now, she decided. She sat up and someone hit her in the shoulder with a snowball. Without hesitation she was up and moving, forming her own ball and laughing in protest. When she finally came inside, her aura was completely pink with joy, although she couldn't feel her fingertips. She curled up beside the fire in a fluffy blanket and dozed as she warmed. Outside, the snow continued to build everything new. She thought that was part of what she liked about it. Snow gave the ugly things a pretty coat, a chance to shine fresh. Who wouldn't love that?
She fell asleep there, dreaming, as the flakes fell down.
