Elizabeth takes being scandalous with a quiet humor. She is perfectly polite to all the snubbed mothers and formerly-hopeful daughters that she meets as the new Mrs. Darcy.
"Their regard for me simply warms the room," she tells her husband, eyes dancing with amusement. The corner of Darcy's mouth twitches a little as he tries to resist the urge to laugh.
"In dead winter, then, we ought to be certain to hold many parties, as it will lower the costs of our heating," he answers.
She stretches herself toward him a little bit more. They are seated on a favored couch, Elizabeth reading one book and Darcy another. The guests for today's ball have gone on home, and it is time for some relaxation before bed. She nudges his shoulder companionably.
"So practical," she says, teasing, and then settles back into her novel. After a few moments, he adjusts his own seat so he is closer to her, and thus warmed by each other's body heat, they spend the rest of a quiet evening.
