[Glee] more hell and fewer dahlias (Puck/Lauren)
Title: more hell and fewer dahlias
Fandom: Glee
Length: 500 words
Prompt: fic_promptly: Glee, Puck/Lauren, slowly
Pairing: Puck/Lauren
Other: PG for sexual references.
Excerpt: One of the best things about Puck is his puppy eagerness to try anything once, and that's a trait to encourage, especially if she has her cell phone camera handy. It's the choosing-your-battles thing that matters. Lauren only wrestles in her weight class. Puck just needs to apply a similar idea to his entire life.
Lauren is good at sizing people up. She's practiced. And what she sees in mohawk boy is the poster child for live fast, die young. The problem is, she realizes that she doesn't want to deal with that. Even if she breaks up with him eventually, they'll be friends, and who wants a three a.m. phone call telling them to come to the hospital? For the sake of her future sleep, she's gotta teach him how to live more slowly.
She doesn't want to teach him how to be boring. "Sometimes you are just like a little kid," she says to him. They're hanging out in the janitor closet waiting for the bell between periods. He'd sneaked out of math and she had free period. They have a standing date to make out for ten minutes here right before noon. Now she's fixing her lipstick. Puck is breathing hard.
"What?" he says. "Do I feel like a little kid to you?" He gestures to his crotch.
She pats his cheek, which is their little signal that means he should shut up and listen. He does. Puck likes being bossed around by his girls -- the ones that really matter, not the ones he just screws for the orgasm. She doesn't care about those girls. She does care about being the good top in their relationship. It works out well for both of them.
"Of course not," she says, tone sarcastic. "I was just thinking that you don't know anything about delayed gratification. Sometimes you gotta work for it, Puckerman."
"Haven't I been? I haven't tried to grope you for almost a week," he points out. She smiles.
"Yeah, you're getting it. I just thought you needed a reminder. Some things are worth waiting for."
She grabs his shirt collar and kisses him fiercely for a moment, running the nails of her other hand down the sensitive skin on the back of his neck.
"Getting better all the time," she says, smiling a little. He looks dazed. She smiles more.
"You're a quick learner," Lauren says, as the bell rings. She lets the door go behind her, and she thinks from his muffled swear that it hit him in the face, but she's got English next period and she wants her favorite seat in the back, so she's got to go.
He'll be all right. He'd be dead already if that weren't the case; the boy can take some knocks.
She likes that in a man. So they'll keep taking it slowly and she'll keep showing him how to be a human being, and maybe one day, when she makes it out of Ohio, she'll bring him with her.
