She could hear his heart pounding, and her mouth twitched with a smile that she hid with a hand.

"An accident, huh? So you wouldn't kiss me on purpose? I see how it is. Won't go on field trips with me, won't touch me-- You're kind of an awful friend, Sparky."

"What? No, that's not what I meant! I just-- Aaaagh." She could hear the frustration in his voice. Zuko was so far from a smooth talker that he approached it from the other side, sometimes. It was kinda sweet and kinda hilarious.

"I can tell when you're lying, you know," she said. "You could just come right out and say it: Toph Bei Fong, I don't really like you and I definitely don't want to kiss you."

"You are a pain in the butt," he muttered, before he leaned down and kissed her again, fingers trailing up along the curve of her neck. She made a little satisfied sound. When their kiss broke, she grinned.

"I just know how to manipulate you," she said, and when he started protesting, she pulled on his collar, yanking him so she could kiss him again.
