[Mulan] Morning Rituals (Shang/Mulan)
Title: Morning Rituals
Fandom: Mulan
Length: 188 words
Prompt: Three-Sentence Fic-a-thon: Mulan, Shang/Mulan, training exercises
Pairing: Mulan/Shang
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Marriage is a learning process, and Shang is always learning new things about his bride.
Marriage is a learning process, and Shang is always learning new things about his bride, like the way her hair looks, unbound in the moonlight, and the warmth of her body next to him as she sleeps, and the fact that she rises even earlier than he does, slipping away in the predawn quiet.
He's not used to having someone next to him, and his military training overshadows his happiness; he wakes when she gets up, but hesitates to follow, in case she is only taking care of necessary business, because married or not, such things need their privacy. He only gets up when he hears the door open and shut, and then he follows, to see his wife hard at work in the growing light, her body moving familiarly through their morning training exercises; and marriage is a learning process, so Shang just smiles and joins her without comment, because if there's something he's learned about Mulan since he's met her, it's that she will make him space, but she won't give up who she is for him-- and that makes him the happiest husband in China.
