Freedom is a legend, a whisper between magical beings like him when they meet-- it's barely an idea, barely allowed to cross Genie's mind, because he has had so many years dealing with disappointment.
He never allows himself to hope, because it is unprofessional; still, there's something in Aladdin's eyes that allows him to wonder, just a little, and he will let that be enough, he says to himself, because you can't expect humanity to change, not after all these years.
And then he is freed and the word itself is honey on his lips-- there is so much he can do, so many places to see, so much to experience-- but only one thing he wants to do, and he can do it, and that is more freedom than he's ever considered.
