Roxy does not put up with his shit. In fact, she puts up with a lot less than Rube really wants her to, but he'll take what he can get. She doesn't mind grabbing him by the collar and sharing some curse words along with her questions. Roxy is tough as nails, and Rube has to respect that.

He does. He gives a respect that he never would have expected to feel for a woman in his lifetime, and he's been grooming her to succeed him for years before he realizes. Who knows what the higher-ups will do when he gets his last Reap? If they appoint Roxy, he wants her to be ready. There's a lot of hard decisions she'll have to make along with the cussing. Figuring out how to manage Mason took him months alone (he actually thinks that Roxy does a better job).

She's so full of life somehow - all that rage at hers cut short has never faded. Combine that with a frustrating job and the strain of her Reaper coworkers, and Roxy never fades. Rube has to admire it. He's tired, for all of his sarcasm and dire wit. She builds him up and shares her strength without even trying.

Sometimes he thinks, well... maybe. But one of his ironclad rules is that you don't date coworkers. So he doesn't.

He does tell her that she's pretty once; she blinks, studies him for sincerity (he does his best not to bend under scrutiny), and then half-smiles.

"Yeah, I know," she answers, and that's the end of that.
