[Glee] Saturday Night (Kurt gen)
Title: Saturday Night
Fandom: Glee
Length: 961 words
Prompt:
glee_fluff_meme: Kurt + the guys. friendship. Chicks who hang out with gay guys are fag hags, while straight guys are known as fag stags. Can I get a fic with the Gleek guys reaching a point where Kurt's homosexuality becomes a non-issue? He falls asleep with his head on someone's lap, they go shopping/drinking together, completely not bothering what people will think, they talk about what they like in chicks/guys etc and they get really angry if someone tries to pick on Kurt. Obviously, this means that Kurt isn't crushing on Finn anymore.
Pairing: Kurt gen + Glee boys; mention of Kurt/OC
Other: Contains scene of homophobic bullying. Mostly fluff otherwise.
Excerpt: Now he gets manicures with the girls on Saturday afternoons and watches something ridiculous and violent with the guys on Friday nights.
It's Saturday night and the male half of the Glee Club is standing in line for what Finn promises will be the most epic movie ever.
"You said that about Avatar, too," Mike points out, "and all that did was make Matt dream about blue-skinned babes."
Finn says defensively, "That was ages ago," but everyone is snickering except Matt, who says, "Well, she was kinda hot." They rib him a little more about being a secret furry before it's finally their turn in line.
"There may not be room for all of you to sit together," the clerk says faintly, staring at the hodgepodge of boys as if she expects Puck to be as much of a vandal as his haircut suggests.
"Whose turn is it to hold Kurt?" Artie asks, and they all laugh again, except for Kurt, who pretends to be huffy.
"Why do I hang out with you giants?" he says. Finn thumps him on the shoulder in a friendly way.
"Because you like us," he says easily, and Kurt smiles a little.
"Because I like Robert Downey, Jr.," he answers flippantly. He'd seen the Iron Man movies for the same reason; The Avengers is apparently set in the same universe, which is why Kurt is looking forward to this movie.
"Good taste," the clerk says, smiling at him, and she hands them their tickets.

It took some time before Kurt ceased allying himself solely with the feminine half of Glee. But the boys have all proven their loyalty and their friendship over the past couple of years, and all the time they've spent together since sophomore year has made Kurt into one of the guys. His sexuality is a non-issue, just like Artie's wheelchair. It's acknowledged when necessary, but it doesn't separate him from them. Kurt has never realized how nice it is to have guy friends-- not boys to crush on, but just people to hang with. Even when it was just him and Artie in Glee, they hadn't been close-- Artie had Tina and Kurt had Mercedes.
Now he gets manicures with the girls on Saturday afternoons and watches something ridiculous and violent with the guys on Friday nights. He has a social life, and a boyfriend who lives in New York whom he met online. They're going to meet in person this summer (and when the boys found out, they stuffed his backpack full of condoms; everyone had laughed for five minutes and then Mr. Schuester had to intervene in the following condom-tossing fight).
It's really amazing how things have changed over the past couple of years.

The theater is pretty full, yes, but while Finn isn't looking (he always scolds like someone's mom), Puck intimidates a couple sitting on the end of the bottom row of seats. They move a few rows away and the boys all sit down with Artie's wheelchair on the end. Kurt doesn't have to sit on anyone's lap, which is good because he's usually stuck with Puck, and Puck likes to pinch him in odd moments to make him squeak, because he finds it funny.
He ends up between Artie and Mike and only sits down long enough to take off and arrange his designer jacket before he springs up again.
"Going to the bathroom," he says before heading up the aisle to the doors again. In his absence the others start a good-natured argument over who is hotter, Pepper Potts or Mary Jane Watson. It's a surprisingly vibrant discussion because Mike has a thing for redheads, but finally the lights begin to dim and there's no sign of Kurt.
Kurt likes saying snarky things during the previews (his dissection of Piranhas 2 had nearly gotten them thrown out of the theater once because no one could stop laughing), so Finn gets up and says he's going to grab a soda.
On his way back from the concession stand, he slips into the bathroom and there-- Kurt is being pressed against the back wall by a couple of hulking football players from another nearby high school. Finn can't hear what sort of insults Kurt is attempting around the forearm pressed into his chest, but the very sight makes Finn see red. He sets the drink on the counter and sends a barely coherent text message to Puck before he strides across the intervening space and slams the first football player into the wall.
"Oh, your boyfriend showed up, huh?" the other bully sneers, grabbing Kurt by the neck. Kurt flails his arms, clutching at his abuser ineffectually, and Finn gets hold of this other guy's shoulder and pulls.
He might have been in trouble, two on one, but then Puck and Matt and Mike are trudging into the bathroom, wearing identically angered expressions. The bullies take one look at those faces and decide that Kurt isn't worth it. Artie holds the door for them as they rush past the Glee boys and out. Puck sends them both along with a helping shove.
Kurt massages his throat a little. "If he didn't want me looking, he shouldn't have worn such tight pants," he says hoarsely.
"Ooh," Mike says, lifting his eyebrows. "I'm telling New York Andrew."
(Kurt's boyfriend needs the nickname, the conversation had gone, because Lima's only Andrew is a freshman AV kid who picks his nose when he thinks no one is looking.)
"Hey, there's no rule against looking," Puck says with a laugh. The group of them file back out of the bathroom, crisis averted, and they make it to their seats just in time for the movie to start.
Kurt leans over and takes a sip of the soda Finn offers him, and then sits back to enjoy another night with the boys.
