When Clow arrived on Yuuko's doorstep, dripping wet but somehow still managing to fasten a grin to his face, she thought of a thousand cutting remarks and then sighed loudly to show how much she was being put out before she let him in. He dripped on her floor and she promised herself to make him clean up the mess before he left.
"Summer storm. I'm afraid it caught me unawares," he said. She countered it with a huff of disbelief.
"Nothing catches you unawares," she answered scathingly, turning back toward her parlor and the book she had abandoned. "You know where the bathroom is," she called over her shoulder.
He did, and when he made his way there he was unsurprised to see the towel thrown haphazardly into the sink. He used it to dry his hair, and a spell to warm his clothes to a comfortable temperature, and then he hung the towel up to dry and went to find Yuuko.
She had the chessboard out and a book on her lap, but was lounging on her couch, eyes half-lidded. She didn't look up when he came in, instead letting smoke escape from her pursed lips.
"Thank you for your hospitality," he said, unable to keep the amusement from his voice. Something about her was a little too posed for his appearance to be a true interruption.
"You're lucky I put up with you, Clow," she answered, rolling over onto her stomach, putting down the pipe, and then choosing to look up at him, supporting her head in her hands. Outside, the thunder rumbled angrily, but the room was warm from the space heater, and the rain felt very far away.
"I'll make some tea, shall I?" he said in a placating tone. She nodded, just a little.
She'd left her favorite tea set out in the kitchen, so she took the opportunity to make the first move of their chessgame and to contemplate what dessert she would request later.
When he came back, he slid open the door to the porch a few inches so that the pattern of the rain was a little louder. He took a seat on a cushion she donated from the couch and handed her the teacup, and then made his own chess move.
"You'd think someone with more precognition than recommended wouldn't choose such an unpleasant day to visit," she said, sipping her tea.
"Rain is quite pleasant. Invigorating, even. And why should I delay seeing you?" He smiled.
"It doesn't matter to me," she said, rolling her eyes.
"Of course not," he lied back, and so they passed away the afternoon.
