[Magic Knight Rayearth/Avatar] 'twas a crowd (Clef/Presea)
Title: 'twas a crowd
Fandom: Magic Knight Rayearth/Avatar
Length: 416 words
Prompt: I have dreams of orca whales and owls for
chibidl's birthdayfic
Pairing: Clef/Presea and the Avatar gang
Other: See the other stories in this universe here.
Excerpt: "He's not any taller than you, Twinkletoes," she says with a laugh, pointing. Clef wonders at the casual name for the Avatar, who is after all, supposed to save the world. "Are all airbenders this tiny? Does it help with gliding?"
"So," the earthbender says, walking in a slow circle around him. She draws the word out and he bits back irritation at her clear judgment of him, instead choosing to watch her feet. She's a little shorter than he is, but makes no attempt to meet his eyes; this would bother him more if he hadn't caught a glimpse of them earlier, green as pale jade and clearly sightless.

Clef coughs politely as a reminder that he is listening.
"And he's really old!" she continues. "But at least it means you're not the last one. For a while."
From the corner of his eye, Clef can see Presea's glare. He decides to step in.
"I'm Clef. It's nice to meet you too," he says. She blows her bangs out of her face, shoves her hands in her pockets, and nods at him.
"I'm Toph, but sometimes people call me the Blind Bandit," she says, grinning. "I think I'll call you Second. Since you're the second-to-last airbender." She scuffs decisively at the dirt, shoeless, and from the way she's standing now he can tell how she gets around so easily.
"Guys, he's not an animal in the zoo," the waterbender says. Her brother offers, "Well, he is kinda historical." She smacks him in the arm.
"He's okay with me," Toph says, but then thumbs in Presea's direction. "She's a firebender, though."
Presea squeaks. "What?" she manages. Clef's brow furrows. How in the world had she been able to tell?
"You changed your stance when I started teasing him. I know the way firebenders stand. And their short tempers."
Presea clenches her fists, looking around defensively, but Aang grins.
"That's great! Now I'll have a firebending teacher! This is the best day ever!"
"I'm a lot better with a sword than firebending," Presea admits, and Aang's shoulders fall. Clef takes a few steps past Toph and pats the boy on the arm.
"You'll find a teacher," he says, and Aang nods, hopeful if uncertain.
"An airbender and a firebender. I wonder what your kids will do?" Toph wonders aloud, and even if she can't see their blushes, she hears their heartbeats speed up and she grins triumphantly.
