Summary: Set in an alternate universe where Syaoran never confessed his love to Sakura. Sakura is afraid it's going to be a disaster, but Syaoran assured her that her wedding will go right.
"Oh, it's going to be a disaster!" Sakura moaned, tears rising in her eyes. Syaoran laughed at her drama. It always helped if someone else laughed at her; she was then able to laugh at herself.
"You'll be fine," he said gently, and put his hand on her bare shoulder. It was a rare intimacy for Syaoran to touch Sakura; he seemed to almost have an aversion for her skin, or to touch itself, Sakura always thought.
(He loved her, and could not have her, and touching made it worse.)
"Everything is set up, everyone is dressed, and there are almost too many guests for the hall," he said reassuringly, moving his hand.
(She is getting married today, and even casual touch made him feel worse.)
"Too many guests? Where will we put them?" Sakura said, again beginning to panic, but when he laughed this time, she laughed with him.
(At least he has always been able to be at her side. At least, for these short years, he has been near her.)
"Sakura-chan!" Tomoyo said, bursting into the room. "I've got your veil fixed!"
"Thank you, Tomoyo-chan!" she said enthusiastically, throwing her arms around her friend. Syaoran met Tomoyo's eyes over Sakura's shoulder, knowing they were both wearing the same sad expression.
(Sometimes he wondered what would have happened if he had ever confessed his love to her. That was not something to wonder about today.)
"It's almost time," Tomoyo said to Sakura, and she grinned.
"Everything will be all right, won't it?" she said, now that the disaster had been averted.
"Of course," Syaoran said. "We better get to our places, Tomoyo-san."
"Of course," Tomoyo said, pulling her eyes away from Sakura's beauty. "Can't start without the groomswoman and man of honor, can you?"
"Or the bride!" Sakura said, and waved goodbye as they left.
(It was luck that she had fallen in love with Tomoyo's cousin, because it meant she could have her best friend Syaoran at her side on this special day, and Tomoyo could stand by her cousin. She didn't know what she would do when he went back to Hong Kong; he'd been so supportive of her life.)
They left, and Sakura contemplated for a moment how her life would have been, if Syaoran had loved her, and not Kenji, but it was a silly question. One couldn't argue with fate.
She left the room and closed the door on a small part of her heart that whispered:
(I did love him once...)
And she went to meet her groom.
