[Cardcaptor Sakura] Charmed (fem!Eriol gen; Syaoran/Sakura)

Title: Charmed
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Length: 625 words
Prompt: Genderbent requests: Eriol for [livejournal.com profile] chibidl
Pairing: fem!Eriol gen with Syaoran/Sakura background
Other: In which Eriol has always been female.

Excerpt: Eriol is-- there's something about her that provokes Syaoran's suspicion. She's kind to him but almost in a backhanded way, compliments that slide into teasing and completely innocent smiles.

By the end of her first day at Tomoeda Elementary, there are seven members of the Eriol Hiiragizawa Appreciation Society. Yamazaki Takashi is the president, much to Chiharu's chagrin.

Eriol smiles, hiding true amusement behind her hand, and bows graciously when classmates pepper her with questions during lunch. They want to know her favorite food, her favorite game, her family history, and her reasons for transfer. Eriol somehow manages to dodge all questions. With a carefully-choreographed flip of her skirt, she takes her leave and locates Sakura Kinomoto.

She's a charmer; she always is. When she takes Sakura's hand, Tomoyo is intrigued, but says nothing.

Eriol outshines all of the girls at domestic pursuits, even Rika. And yet, despite her superior skills (and the boys' fascination), she gets along quite well with everyone. She is nearly impossible to dislike.

Syaoran manages. Eriol is-- there's something about her that provokes his suspicion. She's kind to him but almost in a backhanded way, compliments that slide into teasing and completely innocent smiles. She's always playing the innocent with him, managing to get herself right in the way of these crazy problems they've been having lately with the Cards, and both he and Sakura have had to rescue her more than once. She accepts their clumsy explanations without question-- Sakura is grateful, but it just feeds Syaoran's uncertainty.

And she flirts with him outrageously, until he is sure his embarrassment is palpable, his face hot and confusion evident. He doesn't know how to ask her to stop, because any time he even tries to broach the topic, he stutters into silence. She just blinks her big blue eyes and smiles back.

She becomes part of their group somehow, often sharing lunch and activities. The three of them have their own secret, of course, but somehow manage not to mention magic unless Eriol is gone. They steal their moments when she is practicing piano or otherwise occupied.

Sakura hesitates before she speaks. "You like her, don't you?" she asks.

Eriol and Tomoyo have stayed behind in the classroom to sew costumes for the maid cafe fundraiser that the class is preparing for, and it is just Syaoran and Sakura underneath their favorite tree today. Syaoran has been quietly celebrating his luck-- it seems like he can't go anywhere without having Eriol suddenly attached to his arm.

"What?" Syaoran sputters, eyes widening in horror.

"Eriol-chan," Sakura says. She's looking at her hands and anywhere but Syaoran, but he doesn't notice because he's also looking at anywhere but her. "She seems-- you seem-- it's okay if you like her, Sy-- Li-kun."

Syaoran makes a fair attempt at covering his sudden despair with a stoic expression. She glances at him and seems to think of the look as a confirmation.

"I really hope you can be happy!" she continues. Syaoran fists his hands in the grass.

"I-- I--"

He wants nothing more than to get up and run away, but this isn't something he can run from, not anymore. This might be his only chance.

"Not her," he manages. "I don't-- I like someone else," he says quietly.

"Oh!" she says, just a little too surprised. He glances at her. Her face is slightly flushed.

"Yeah," he confirms.

The silence stretches for a moment before the bell rings. The moment ends as they stride back up toward the school, and if they're walking a little closer than before, no one will notice.

Except, perhaps, the dark-haired girl sitting primly in a nearby tree. She giggles, the light glinting off her glasses.

"I can work with this," she says to herself, and the grin she wears is much more Clow than Eriol.

She skips back to class.
