Excerpt: Presea was a cuddler, long legs and strong arms, and he usually fell asleep nestled into her shoulder, breathing against her skin.

Most days, he woke up first, coming slowly and comfortably to consciousness with her warmth wrapped around him. Presea was a cuddler, long legs and strong arms, and he usually fell asleep nestled into her shoulder, breathing against her skin. She, in turn, curled herself around him, so that their feet often brushed, even though she always mumbled sleepily in protest that his were cold. (One night, to be considerate, he offered her a hot water bottle; she laughed and set it on the nightstand and kissed him until they were both warm, and that was the last of that.)

She slept more than he used to, a heavy sleep from a long day's work. Clef had aches and pains and the ability of the aged to survive on just a few hours stolen from his books and duties. Still, he rarely protested when she took his hand and pulled him to bed. Otherwise, if he came home late and she'd already fallen asleep, just the slightest pressure of his presence on the bed meant that she would open her arms with a sleepy sigh, not even bothering to open her eyes, but not fully resting until he took the invitation. He always smiled when she did that, hair all mussed and half-dozing, and sometimes he fell asleep too with that smile on his face.

He didn't get up immediately, lingering in her grasp and only emerging from the bed when nature called. Usually when he came back she was awake, one eye cracked open, wearing a sleepy grin.

"'Morning," she whispered as he climbed back into bed and pulled the covers up around them again.

"Was it?" he answered teasingly, kissing her softly on the collarbone. "I hadn't noticed." She murmured in pleasure, brushing a hand through his hair and pressing him into her chest again.

"We could give it a couple more hours to season properly," she said. "Just to make sure that it isn't false dawn." She traced around his ear and down his neck with her finger, fingertip circling lazily before she let her palm rest on the back of his neck. He sighed happily, nuzzling closer.

"Wouldn't that be a shame?" he answered, and she mumbled yes before she was drifting back to sleep again. He was in the midst of a tangle of sheets and warm legs and the soot-smell of her hair, and that was enough to tempt him back to sleep as well.

Just a little while longer.
