[Magic Knight Rayearth] A Lovely Trick (Ferio/Fuu)
Title: A Lovely Trick
Fandom: Magic Knight Rayearth
Length: 478 words
Prompt: Fic on Demand's first kiss meme: Magic Knight Rayearth, Ferio/Fuu
Pairing: Ferio/Fuu
Other: Title from a quote by Ingrid Bergman
Excerpt: The Knights always came to Cephiro together, but more often than not Umi would get a certain look in her eye and make suggestions which left Fuu and Ferio alone together. They went walking together, or practiced their swordsmanship, or a thousand other things, having conversations in bursts of enthusiasm.
Despite Ferio's confidence and determination when he decided to woo Fuu, he could be a shy man. Fuu assumed that it was because he was as inexperienced in romance as she was. The barest touch of skin to skin caused a blush to rise on both their faces. Though they managed to make their interest in each other clear, they took very small steps toward physical affection.
Of course, in Cephiro, they had very old-fashioned ideas of courting, as well. That explained why he'd given her a ring to wear even though they barely knew each other. He dared to kiss her hand-- that itself probably something that his guardians wouldn't have approved of so soon-- but otherwise, remained a perfect gentleman. He did have princely training, after all, even if he preferred the Forest to the palace.
Still, they both knew what the ring was a promise to, and the future beckoned. The Knights always came to Cephiro together, but more often than not Umi would get a certain look in her eye and make suggestions which left Fuu and Ferio alone together. They went walking together, or practiced their swordsmanship, or a thousand other things, having conversations in bursts of enthusiasm. Neither ever tired of hearing about the other's country and mannerisms. Ferio took her on whirlwind tours of Cephiro using Clef's spirit beasts, and she held tight to his waist.
One day upon dismounting from a somewhat mischievous griffin, Fuu lost her footing. Ferio whirled around and caught her gently, though the impact unbalanced them both and they tumbled backwards onto the ground. In the resulting confusion, their lips met painfully, and Fuu accidentally elbowed him in the gut trying to get out of the way.
When the dust cleared, she was sitting almost in his lap, though he had sprawled his hands out behind him in an attempt to balance, and her own hands were pressed against his chest. Immediately she colored in embarrassment and started apologizing, but after a moment in which Ferio regained his breath, he smiled at her. His gaze made her stop speaking.
He shifted carefully into a more upright position. She moved as if to rise but he caught her hands in his and pressed them to his lips. Then he leaned forward deliberately, and this time gave her a proper kiss.
It was short but firm, as a sign of his feelings for her, and when their lips parted he was as flushed as if he'd ran a race. She grinned broadly and leaned forward to kiss him again, muffling a surprised sound from him.
And after that she picked herself up delicately, brushing herself off and offering him a hand. Ferio took it, his face still marked with wonder.
They walked back into the palace, fingers laced, the prince and his intended.
(Next time, Fuu thought to herself, she'd come up with a better excuse.)

A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous. -Ingrid Bergman
