[Dalemark Quartet] Making Waves (Hildy gen)
Title: Making Waves
Fandom: Dalemark Quartet (Drowned Ammet)
Length: 184 words
Prompt: Icon prompt for
spellcoats
Pairing: Hildy gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Hildy loves sailing. It is a vague idea of hers that if she had been born a boy, and further, not kin to the Earl, that she would have been a sailor.
Hildy loves sailing. It is a vague idea of hers that if she had been born a boy, and further, not kin to the Earl, that she would have been a sailor. She loves looking over the prow of the boat, feeling the heaviness of the wheel, and the power she has, the control. Perhaps, in fact, the reason she loves sailing so much is because she is, in the boat, control of her own destiny-- though it's a temporary illusion, and one she loses much too early.
As the mistress of the Holy Islands, she won't get to sail. It isn't proper, no matter how kind or neglectful her husband will be. Not only will she have to be away from Ynen, probably forever, but she will be landbound. It's like cutting off her feet, she thinks.
She sits on the Road and sulks without unmooring it. She'll listen to her family's orders-- for now. After all, she is a girl, and Hadd's granddaughter. She can't change that.
Sometimes she prays that she can.
