[Glee] take it or leave it (Santana/Finn)
Title: take it or leave it
Fandom: Glee
Length: 544 words
Prompt: Awesome Ladies Ficathon: Glee, Santana/Finn, my parents would hate you
Pairing: Santana/Finn; past Puck/Santana; Finn/Rachel; background Puck/Rachel
Other: AU after 1x15 Power of Madonna.
Excerpt: "Of course, after Puck, you're going to seem like a saint. You'd probably even knock instead of using the window." His eyes widen. She wonders if he'd wear a dog collar, if she got it for him.
Finn asks Santana why she just wants him to honk when he picks her up.
"My parents would hate you," she says, rolling her eyes. That isn't why she picked him, but it is a plus. She's not stupid enough to date someone just to make them mad-- she's not going to cut off her nose to spite her face-- but she does like Finn, somehow, inexplicably. Maybe it's because she's going to take his virginity, but she feels an odd sort of responsibility for him. He gives her a puppy-dog look and she resists the urge to ruffle his hair.
"Of course, after Puck, you're going to seem like a saint. You'd probably even knock instead of using the window."
His eyes widen. She wonders if he'd wear a dog collar, if she got it for him.
"We'll make it work," she decides, and the next morning after their "date," she meets him at the doors to the school. She's foisted Brittany off on Mike for the day and she wraps her arm around Finn's bicep possessively. He does have some muscle in there. Maybe with a little training, she can make this work. It's definitely worth it just to see Rachel's and Puck's expressions, the way their eyes meet as if in question: "Are we really seeing this?"
They are. Santana Lopez is headed up the social ladder. Even if Finn occupies a shaky ledge there due to Glee-related activities, she isn't going to ask him to quit. Instead, she teaches him enough Spanish to pass Schuester's joke of a class, pats him twice on the shoulder when Puck and Rachel start dating again, and is a very patient makeout instructor.
He does meet her parents eventually. Her mom steps on the squeaky board outside her bedroom door and that's just enough time to pull apart and pick up her notebook. When Mrs. Lopez knocks, she opens the door to see her daughter with pencil in hand, sitting with appropriate distance from the lanky, awkward boy with a textbook in his lap. His smile is sincere and slightly lopsided.
"It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Lopez," he manages.
"Mom?" Santana says, rolling her eyes. "Studying?"
"Of course," she answers, still studying Finn for a moment. He looks down, a flush to his face.
He doesn't stay much longer, and when her daughter shows him out, Santana lingers in the kitchen.
"He seems like a nice boy," Mrs. Lopez says cautiously. He's white, but she's begun to resign herself to that. There isn't a large Hispanic community in Lima; most of them are related. Plus, Santana is going to make her own way.
"Yeah, I guess," Santana says, almost sulking, before she escapes to her room. Her phone buzzes.
"ur mom iz cool," the text message says.
"just dont sleep w/ her ok," she sends back, resigned, and maybe she smiles just a little. His earnest nature has become a bit endearing, if she's honest with herself.
Her phone vibrates again, no doubt registering Finn's horror at the suggestion. She picks it up and skips down the stairs again.
"u shuld meet my dad," she sends, and she helps her mom set the dinner table.
