Summary: Tomorrow Sakura will belong to Syaoran, but tonight, she sleeps beside Tomoyo.
Her chest rises and falls evenly with her breathing. Her beautiful eyes are closed, her face relaxed, her lips half-parted. I will not sleep much tonight, distracted as I am by her beauty.
She sleeps beside me, trusting, dreaming. She's so close that I could reach out and touch her lips, and take them for my own, but I will not. Sweet Sakura, I will guard your dreams until tomorrow, when I place them in the hands of the only other person who could love you as much as I do.
Tomorrow I will sleep alone again, this the only exception from the cold bed I will inhabit in the future. Tomorrow she and her beloved will fumble towards ecstasy, melding their bodies to express their joy at being together. Tomorrow I will lie awake until my body forces me to sleep.
It's not the sex that I am jealous of, but her affection. I do not blame him for taking her away, because she wanted to be taken, but I will miss her smile each morning and the thousand little things we have done together since we met-- shopping, gossip, talking on the phone for hours.
Tomorrow she becomes his forever, but tonight she sleeps together with me. Quietly I rest my head on her shoulder and breathe in the scent of the one I love the most, and treasure the illusion that we are together, just for tonight, this night before her wedding. Thank God that her bachelorette party was short and that she agreed to stay with me tonight. It is her last precious gift to me.
I raise up on one elbow and kiss her forehead, and she smiles a little in her sleep. Then I tuck myself in next to her and pray that morning never comes.
