For a Given Value of Normal (Sebastian/Ciel)
Title: For a Given Value of Normal
Fandom: Black Butler
Length: 173 words
Prompt: Three-Sentence Fic-a-thon: Kuroshitsuji, Sebastian/Ciel. "It smells like the kitchen's on fire again."
Pairing: slight Sebastian/Ciel; mostly gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: The Phantomhive household has this maddening way of making the most ridiculous concepts tame.
The Phantomhive household has this maddening way of making the most ridiculous concepts tame; at least once a week Ciel lifts his nose and says, irritably, "It smells like the kitchen's on fire again," and then Sebastian has to swoop in, a raven fire-fighter, and pull Bard out of the remains.
Or there's the way that the maid forgets to clean or the gardener forgets to put the statues back where they were before he mowed the lawn, the way that Ciel looks at Sebastian, and the way Sebastian looks back, with just a touch of fang and insolence (just the way Ciel likes, if he could admit it to himself, but he's just a little too young for such revelations).
No one stays in their household longer than their business keeps them; something about the unholy codependence of servants and master keeps them away, keeps them out of an odd family that they can never quite join, because their breath will always catch when they smell smoke, and Ciel can only sigh in resignation.
