Raised in Song (Meiling/Tomoyo)
Title: Raised in Song
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Length: 422 words
Prompt: Christmas card fic for
beansidhe_baby
Pairing: Meiling/Tomoyo
Other: Slight AU.
Excerpt: Meiling was drawn to the sound. She slipped into the music room silently, trying not to interrupt Tomoyo's concentration, and listened.
When Meiling came back to Japan with Syaoran, she had little trouble fitting in. She had grown quite a bit since her last few visits, shed the resentment and desperation to prove herself. She was still Meiling, of course-- headstrong, determined, bright-- but much more tempered.
So it hadn't been too weird, really, to see Sakura and Tomoyo again. They'd written letters, and both girls had more than enough love in their hearts for another friend. But Meiling didn't see them incredibly often, even now. Tomoyo had been placed in higher-level courses, and Meiling still struggled with her Japanese too much to have much time for extracurriculars.
She hadn't seen either of them for a couple of weeks, in fact, and was thinking of calling them over winter break. Meiling came into school early to turn in homework, the day before break began, and she was surprised to hear Tomoyo's voice.
Tomoyo was still a beautiful singer; her golden tones resonated down the empty hallway. She was singing a carol from the choir concert they were having that night. Meiling was drawn to the sound. She slipped into the music room silently, trying not to interrupt Tomoyo's concentration, and listened. Tomoyo sung with a passion that rarely escaped when she was in company (generally only when it concerned her other favorite hobby of costuming). Her eyes were shut, hands clasped to her chest. There was slight color in her cheeks and Meiling thought at that moment that she was looking at the most gorgeous woman she'd ever seen. She felt a blush rise on her own face; it was a Li thing, this inability to hide attraction.
Tomoyo finished and then opened her eyes, smiling at Meiling as if she'd known Meiling was there the entire time.
"Would you like to do something tonight?" Meiling blurted out. "I mean... I know you have a concert, but afterward..."
"I could use a date to my mother's Christmas party," Tomoyo answered, and the way that she said "date" made Meiling feel warm.
"I'd like that a lot," she answered, grinning broadly.
Tomoyo practiced for a little while longer, as Meiling rested her head in her hands and listened. The atmosphere was intimate, like a private concert. Finally they both had to pull away and get ready for class.
"See you tonight," Tomoyo said, brushing her fingers against Meiling's like a promise. The Chinese girl went around in a happy daze for the rest of the day.

The Only Fandom With Which I'm Familiar
Meiling would likely not "interrupt Tomoyo's concentration" by a mere entrance. Musicians have to put up with a lot of extraneous noise. Take trying to practise in the practice rooms of a music school.
Kawaii!!!

I'm aware of this, but I doubt Meiling would be.
Thanks.
