"Yuuko, you sociopath!" Watanuki yelled. He picked up the broom, holding it
defensively, like that would help against a dragon.

"I believe you mean psychopath," she said cheerily. "Would you take that outside
to the gentleman, Watanuki dear?"

Watanuki grumbled, attempting to shoo the dragon towards the door. Yuuko thought
that she wasn't a sociopath-- she'd learned from her mistake with that first stupid
magician, hadn't she? Last time she trusted someone not to die on her. She wasn't
even going near the man who wanted the dragon.

She even felt a little guilt when Watanuki's broom caught on fire.

It is a choice Yuuko does not like.


I can stay with Yuuko as we have been, gods among men, shapers of the world.

Or I can die, and I am weary.

I drown in memories, the heady recollections of the dance of creation, her hand
beside mine when we drew the spell restrictions, the sparkle in her eyes and the
uncertainty.

But memory is not enough to keep me attached to the world. My guardians may
be immortal, but I do not want to be. I have made the wand and my preparations.

Now I have to tell Yuuko I will die. She may never forgive me.
