Construct (Touya/Kaho/Tomoyo)
Title: Construct
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Length: 318 words
Prompt: Touya/Kaho/Tomoyo: how their relationship works, and how it does, for
mellowcandle
Pairing: Touya/Kaho/Tomoyo
Other: Experimental, somewhat poetic style.
Excerpt: Polyamory was always a balance-- love me more, love me less, love me enough-- and the stakes were high enough already, the past a knife waiting at their throats to stop the blood to their hearts.
i. making
On the outside, it seemed so... breakable. Polyamory was always a balance-- love me more, love me less, love me enough-- and the stakes were high enough already, the past a knife waiting at their throats to stop the blood to their hearts. But it worked-- it did-- because both of them knew that he loved them the most and that was true, he loved them both more than anything in the world. Kaho and Tomoyo complimented each other in looks-- their hair spread across a bedspread was like a sensual Picasso, a riot of gorgeous color to match their smiles. But more importantly, the two of them thought alike, and loved alike, and their hands were gentle and their hearts full. It was more than a balance-- it was natural, it was love, and no one, in the end, could protest.
ii. breaking
It was a balance often upset, but none of them cried; they did not allow themselves the privilege (there was always someone else to be thinking of, someone else to take care of). And sometimes Touya watched Tomoyo as she watched Sakura, and her eyes were so sad that he knew he could never take that pain away-- he could never replace Sakura in Tomoyo's heart, never never. And sometimes there were late-night phone calls from England and Kaho never came to bed at all, and when Touya and Tomoyo awoke, carefully not touching each other (what affected one affected all, it was too much of a dance to work with just two), they would find Kaho asleep on the couch. She would wake and go on with the day, and there were no tears on her face. And there were no tears on Touya's face, a man unable to replace two willing ghosts, and none on Tomoyo's, a woman unwilling to relinquish her treasures. But there was crying all the same, and no one heard it.
