My Boy (m!Flora/Luke)
Title: My Boy
Length: 437 words
Prompt: Professor Layton (Anon) Fan Meme: Florin (male!Flora)/Luke
Pairing: Florin/Luke
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Layton would have a successor. He had an adopted son now. Why would he need Luke?
Luke just wasn't sure how to feel about Florin after the professor brought him home. He wouldn't admit it, but the quiet boy unsettled him. He made Luke feel uncouth and ungentlemanly, because he was simply so polite and quiet. The professor did everything he could to make Florin feel at home, as well, which made it worse.

The day that Luke realized this was a day just like any other. It was Layton's turn to cook breakfast, and Luke had barely wiped the sleep from his eyes and sat down at the table when Florin appeared, already dressed impeccably and bright-eyed. He'd opened up a little more since his rescue from Saint Mystere. Though quiet, he was kind and impossible to dislike.
"You look like such a gentleman today, Florin my boy!" Layton remarked cheerfully, turning away from the stove for a moment, and Florin smiled happily.
After breakfast, Luke decided to run away.

It was Florin who found him, several hours later, and that really almost made it worse. He reached under the bush for Luke, but Luke wouldn't take his hand.
"Go home," he said, trying not to sniffle, even though it had turned out to be a cold and dreary day and he'd likely be battling a cold tomorrow.
"Not without you," Florin said insistently, his blue eyes bright.
"Why?" Luke said, realizing that he was whining and hating it.
"We need you," Florin replied. "The professor needs you."
He took off the kerchief he'd thrown over his hair-- for old times' sake, Luke supposed-- and rung it between his hands. It was odd to Luke to see the other boy so discomfited.
"The professor doesn't need me," he answered. "He has you."
Florin sighed. "Would you come out here please, Luke?"
After a long moment of consideration, Luke sighed and emerged, picking twigs from his hair. Running away hadn't been a bad idea, exactly-- the trouble was, he hadn't planned where he was going to run to. Maybe he should go back to Layton's and figure that out before he tried again.
"The professor needs you," Florin said again. He handed Luke his kerchief, and when Luke looked down at it in puzzlement, he felt something warm press against his cheeks. He jerked up to see Florin's blush.
"I need you too," Florin admitted.
Were boys allowed to kiss boys? Luke had never heard of such a thing, but his face was warm too.
"A-all right," Luke said, taking Florin's hand, and they went home.
