Excerpt: Tomoyo categorizes, gently, and hopes that she'll always remember what Sakura smelled like before she began wearing perfume and what it was like to run through a festival with excitement clutching your back with warm fingers.

In the summer, Tomoyo writes poetry, sitting at her desk and writing by twilight. She thinks that the moments before moonrise are the most magical, even though Sakura doesn't slip over rooftops across the city anymore.

She'll never be done capturing their youth in one form or another. Tomoyo categorizes, gently, and hopes that she'll always remember what Sakura smelled like before she began wearing perfume and what it was like to run through a festival with excitement clutching your back with warm fingers.

She tapes to be in the moment, but she writes and draws to relive, and sometimes there's something more present in a drawing than there is in a faithful recording. See, here, how she softens Sakura's face, to show how beautiful she is in Tomoyo's head, and there's Li-kun's soft smile one hardly notices during the day, and the vibrancy in Tomoyo's own grin.

She's wearing the same smile when she sets the page aside, hearing her phone ring.

"Sakura-chan," she breathes into the phone, fingers clutching at her dress without her even knowing.

She puts it all away--the pictures, the film, the photographs, the poetry-- before she leaves the house, her shoes squeaking on the pavement in sharp anticipation.

It's all wonderful, of course, but new memories are even better, and Tomoyo is ready to make some more.
