The engagement ring was under one of three cups, and Luke wasn't sure which one it was. He stared at the table hopelessly and wondered how he had gotten here.

Flora smiled.

It was Flora, of course. He always felt the need to come up with silly and elaborate things to impress her, ever since they were young, even before he recognized the signs of burgeoning love. He'd always brought her the puzzles he managed to solve with the professor, the clever words of cats, and flowers from strangers' windowsills (at least until Layton found out and made him apologize).

He loved traveling with Layton and solving mysteries, but one day when he was sixteen, they came back from a long trip and before he could explain it he was across the room in Flora's arms, knowing he was home.

Layton just chuckled.

And so here they were, playing the shell game, because he'd had the brilliant idea to rig it, arranging it with a friend of his that Flora had never met. He would pick the right cup, produce the ring, and propose right there.

Problem was, Tom was a little too good at this, and he had no idea which one it was.
