Sing Me Home (Fai/Sakura)
Title: Sing Me Home
Length: 247 words
Prompt:
springkink: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Fai/Sakura: letting one's guard down; behaving naturally - Fai speaking his native language for/to Sakura when they're alone (not official claim)
Pairing: Fai/Sakura
Other: n/a
Excerpt: Fai has always been good with languages; it's another skill born of needful deception.
Fai has always been good with languages; it's another skill born of needful deception. When the princess brings her mage home, he learns the language of Clow in little time at all, and his accent is slight.
Sakura doesn't know much about the language of Celes. It is the language he worked his magics in, but that time is done now, the tattoo re-inked upon his back, and there will be no more magic for him, anymore. He's promised.
One night, when they are alone, an occasion that happens more and more rarely as Touya begins to realize exactly what Fai means to his little sister, Fai begins to hum under his breath. And then he begins to sing. Sakura does not breathe, almost. She listens.
It's not exactly a pretty language, full of sharps and burrs in odd places, and the song seems to ramble through several different keys, though that might just be the way Fai sings it. When he finishes, he sees her there staring, wide-eyed, and he smiles.
"It's a cradle song," he says. "I don't know why I thought of it."
"What does it mean?" the princess asks softly.
"Ah," he says, and then glances sideways at her, reaching out to brush a hand against her cheek.
"It means," he says, pressing a kiss to her forehead, "you're home, little one, you're home."
"Teach me how to sing it," she said, eyes bright. He grinned.
"You sing it every day, my princess."
