She'd gone to church and rested her head against the cool wood of the pews, but only in-between services. She couldn't stand all the shouting; it made her shoulderblades itch with alarm.

They were all trying to deal with it.

The pastor told her it was Satan, the Adversary, who had caused the whole mess, and it was Satan messing with her now. He was kind, concerned, and focused. He saw God and the Prince of Lies everywhere.

But the Yeerks had been Yeerks, and even some of them had protested the invasion. That was the only article of faith she retained in the end.

That, and she hoped Rachel had gone to a place where she didn't have to fight anymore.
