Excerpt: It felt like every other question was about her pregnancy. And everyone stared, too.

You couldn't blame a girl for being defensive. They were calling her the cautionary whale, for Chrissake. And maybe Tommy Barkin didn't think she knew he came up with that, but he was the creepoid with the whale obsession, and she was determined to get him back one of these days.

It felt like every other question was about her pregnancy. And everyone stared, too. She sat on the sidelines in gym class and sulked while the gym teacher made her do sex education worksheets to get credit, and everyone gawked while they ran laps or did whatever non-pregnant teenagers did. It made her angry.

"Excuse me--"

"Yes, I'm pregnant; no, I am not interested in being a "Just Say No" model," Juno snapped, pressing the pencil into the page, and the girl who had paused to speak to her bit her lip.

"I was just wondering where you got your jacket. It's pretty boss," she said quietly.

"Oh. Um. Thanks," Juno replied, blushing. "Thrift store."

"Thanks," the girl said. She looked as though she wanted to say something else, and then jumped back on the track.

Juno watched her run.
