Future Motivations (Luke gen)

Title: Future Motivations
Fandom: Professor Layton
Length: 159 words
Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] writing_game: V Prompt: Version +2
Pairing: Luke gen
Other: slight spoilers for "Last Time Travel"
Excerpt: This other couldn't be him. He looked like Luke, but he couldn't be Luke.

This other couldn't be him. He looked like Luke, but he couldn't be Luke, because Luke would never be so distrusting.

Luke would never challenge the professor to a puzzle-off, except in jest. Luke would never run him around the town on a crazy quest to go back home.

In fact, Luke would never drag the professor to the future at all. Luke was pretty sure this wasn't good for Layton's mind, or his own.

There were other subtle differences; the way he held himself, his language (even though the other was very careful to be as similar as possible, his own heritage leaked through), and something in the shape of his face. He looked like Luke would, in the future, but he wasn't.

When Luke realized that truly, he breathed a sigh of relief. Then a chill ran down his back.

Because really, who were they with? And what did he really want?

Not-Luke smiled, and Luke shivered.
