The Difficulty of Being a Novelist (Percy gen)

Title: The Difficulty of Being a Novelist
Fandom: Professor Layton
Length: 136 words
Prompt: [livejournal.com profile] writing_game: player's choice: writer +2
Pairing: Percy gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: The professor had left St. Mystere with a wild look in his eyes (or so Percy imagined).

The problem, Percy decided, after much consideration, crossing out, self-argument, and wasted paper, was that there was so much to tell. The professor had left St. Mystere with a wild look in his eyes (or so Percy imagined), telling a tale about robots and the tower and a strange man who perpetually smoked cigars.

There was story enough in there for ten books, but Percy was working on the first one still. And besides having too much to tell, he had another problem.

One could not fully explain the professor's genius without involving puzzles, and puzzles did not really belong in novels. He was stuck.

There had to be some way around it. It was either that or talk about Layton's theory that they were all robots, and Percy wanted to write serious literature.
