Larger than Mauve (Edgeworth gen)
Title: Larger than Mauve
Day/Theme:
31_days_exchnge: 20. it is not earthly; how it glides; Edgeworth: I can drink tea and prosecute your ass, and I'm all out of tea for
sky_pirate_tat
Series: Phoenix Wright
Character/Pairing: Edgeworth gen
Rating: G
Length: 246 words
Excerpt: The violently purple suit, the ruffles at his neck-- they would be a detriment to any other man. But Edgeworth carries them well; better yet, he owns them.
To defense attorneys, he is a man to be feared, a man larger than life, unearthly. The violently purple suit, the ruffles at his neck-- they would be a detriment to any other man. But Edgeworth carries them well; better yet, he owns them. He is impossible to overlook in a courtroom.
There are legends about him in law school, whispers and rumors based only in lies and speculation. Once, it is said, he strode into court with a teacup in his hand, and, slamming it down on the podium, declared, "I am here to drink tea and seek a guilty verdict, and I am all out of tea."
It's probably not a true story, but it is the one most repeated, and the one that fills the brains of young defense attorneys, who stumble over their words and drop their notes and lose their cases, one by one, to the man with a theatrical air and a sneering lip.
They'll never know that he once thought to be on their side of the bench, and he would never have them know. His power lies in his place in the court, and it is a power he devours in lieu of personal relationships and life outside the court. He has no hobbies; he has no friends. He has the Law, he has the police, and they will never betray him.
He would be just fine if Phoenix Wright would just leave him alone.
