Series: Professor Layton
Character/Pairing: Flora gen
Rating: G
Length: 364 words
Excerpt: Perhaps the Baron anticipated her rebellion; in any case, Franco kept the bridge carefully. She was safe in her city.
As soon as her father placed her in the tower, Flora began to work out her escape. It wasn't difficult, and soon she wandered St. Mystere at night, cloaked inexpertly, under the indulgent watch of her townspeople.
She loved too much, and so she had been locked away; the Baron did not trust his daughter, who had been raised with such care that she trusted everyone. He knew the world in which he had earned his money, and that a smooth man with clever words would easily sway her heart. He had no desire to see his Golden Apple abused by gold-diggers and criminals.
So he locked her away, but she had to escape. There was no one to talk to in the tower, no one to tease and laugh with. There had not been a lot of cheer in her life after her mother's death, but some part of her still sought after it. She missed a cheerful face, even if the ones she saw were mechanical.
Perhaps the Baron anticipated her rebellion; in any case, Franco kept the bridge carefully. She was safe in her city.
When the professor came, she loved him too, and the boy at his side. Even before meeting him, she saw the gentleness in his face and the kind and careful way he treated her stepmother and the others. And the way the boy trailed after him, his admiration evident, touched her. She'd never had a mentor like the professor. People had always looked up to her as the young lady of the house.
She wanted to learn from him. She watched him solve the puzzles, tip his hat, and creep ever closer to solving the mystery of St. Mystere.
She felt safe in his arms when they fled, even if it was sort of scary. He rolled with no regard for himself when they touched ground. He was a true gentleman, after all, and did not begrudge the bruises when her safety was concerned.
It was no wonder the apple showed, a privilege previously reserved to her father's eyes. Flora loved easily, and Layton had earned her adoration.
